| Background | | | This association was formed in December 1997 by a number of Australian Galloway cattle breeders to promote and market Galloways to the beef industry.  The objectives of the association are: - To promote Galloway beef;
- To develop group marketing strategies;
- To foster performance measurement, recording, and quality control systems; and
- To encourage the maintenance of quality Galloway seed-stock.
| | | The Association represents the interests of members with stud and commercial Galloway cattle. The Association operates a number of Registers to cater for the different breeds of Galloway cattle. Firstly, there were pure ancient Galloway cattle (solid colour Galloways). Secondly, Belted Galloways from a Galloway x Lakenvelder (developed in the 1660’s) & the Australian graded Belted Galloways (developed from the 1980’s). Thirdly, in the 1900’s White Galloways were isolated as separate herds in Scotland and USA; White Galloways are thought to originate from Galloway x White Park cattle. Fourthly, miniature cattle breeds of Galloways, both types of Belted Galloways, White Galloways and Galloways deemed ‘miniature’ by the Galloway Society of Australia disbanded in 1998. Finally, registers for the development of successor breeds and crossbreeding for the commercial market. We recognise that Galloway cattle breeders have a variety of marketing needs, for feeder cattle, grass-fed finished cattle, culls, stud animals and herd bulls. The Association therefore, in collaboration with its members, explores systematically and imaginatively the best avenues for improved member returns from whichever markets they are involved in.
